Le damos la bienvenida a Tony Sheng y próximos pasos para Multicoin Capital

Hoy me complace anunciar que Tony Sheng ha empezado a trabajar en Multicoin Capital como director del equipo de inversión. Con una profunda experiencia como líder de productos en empresas como Google, AltspaceVR (adquirida por Microsoft) y Decentraland, le aporta una perspectiva única y centrada en el usuario a la empresa y al ecosistema en su conjunto. Se radicará en Los Ángeles y trabajará en nuevas negociaciones y apoyará a las empresas que ya forman parte de nuestro portafolio.
Cuando Tushar y yo nos conocimos en NYU hace 11 años, nos conectamos por nuestra afición por las empresas tecnológicas de gran crecimiento. El iPhone era nuevo y nos emocionaban las oportunidades que este crearía en el futuro. Debatimos sobre cosas como si el RIM sobreviviría, si Netflix podría llegar a generar ganancias significativas a pesar de su dependencia de los estudios, si SoLoMo (social/local/móvil) se convertiría en algo grande, si Groupon llegaría a ser rentable y mucho más.
Tushar y yo hemos tenido la buena suerte de ir conociendo a Tony durante los últimos 18 meses. En muchos sentidos, nuestras conversaciones con Tony sobre las criptomonedas han reflejado las conversaciones que Tushar y yo sostuvimos sobre la tecnología hace una década. Los tres hemos debatido (y seguimos debatiendo) sobre oportunidades de tokens de intercambio, cadenas de bloques en la capa 1, la oportunidad de integrar criptomonedas en los juegos de video, el valor de "tokenizar" valores, cómo pensar en el probema de "¿qué cantidad y qué tipos de descentralización son lo suficientemente buenos?", entre otras cosas.
En esa época invitamos a Tony a dar una charla en dos de nuestras Cumbres de Multicoin, y él y yo fuimos a esquiar juntos en Aspen a principios de este año (por cierto, Tony está organizando un excelente viaje crypto de esquí este invierno... estén atentos).
Hemos llegado a conocer a Tony muy bien y pensamos que es una de las personas más consideradas, mejor informadas y capaces que hayamos conocido. Y no solo es considerado, tambíén sabe articular sus ideas excepcionalmente bien sobre el papel. Siempre nos ha parecido que la escritura concisa es un signo de claridad mental y en su excelente blog, Tony ha demostrado con creces que posee dicha cualidad.
El mercado de las criptomonedas es muy joven todavía y hay un rendimiento enorme que se puede capturar de muchas maneras. Las cosas apenas están empezando a ponerse interesantes. Con todas las formas correctas de capital (humano, financiero, social, de proveedores de servicio y marcas) estamos ansiosos de pasar a nuestra próxima etapa de crecimiento como empresa. Hemos logrado avanzar de 0 a 1. Ahora queremos pasar de 1 a N.
Tony nos está ayudando a dar un paso importante en esa travesía y estamos súper emocionados por darle la bienvenida al equipo de Multicoin.
