コンピュータは3つのこと、あるいは3つのことのみを行います。
- データを保存
- データ上に計算
- 他のコンピューターにデータを送信（そのデータが保存、処理され、他のコンピュータに送信されるなど）
ストレージなくして計算することはできません。そのため、初期のWeb3プロトコルのほとんどはストレージに焦点を当てていました。これには、Arweave（私たちが投資家である）、Filecoin、Siaが含まれます。
Web3のコンピュートセクターについてはこれまで何年も考えてきた上に、Livepeer、The Graph、 Render Networkに投資してきました。特に、これらの3つのWeb3コンピュートプリミティブは、いずれもかなり特定の種類の計算に関して非常に高い専門性を有します。
本日は、コンピュート分野への最新の投資について発表できることをうれしく思います。Fluence（フルエンス）への900万ドルの投資を最近主導するにあたり、Alameda Ventures、 Tiger Global、 Protocol Labs、 Arweave Capital、 Polymorphic Capital、 OP Crypto、 Signum Capital、UOBベンチャーマネジメントが参加しました。
フルエンスの単純なメンタルモデルは、分散型でパーミッションレスなAWS Lambdaです。フルエンスは、IPFS、Filecoin、Arweave、セラミック、イーサリアム、ポリゴン、ソラナ、フローなどあらゆるパブリックデータソースからデータを読むことができるほか、その上に計算し、新たに計算されたデータをこれらすべてのリポジトリに保存することができます。
さらに、すべてのノードが同じデータを複製するブロックチェーンとは対照的に、フルエンスはカスタマイズされた分散化、フォールトトレランス、機能別コストベースを用いたピアツーピア（p2p）ネットワーク上の実行を管理します。
フルエンスは独自のプログラミング言語Aquaを用いており、分散型システムを信頼のない環境で構築し、p2pネットワーク間の実行を管理するために設計されています。アプリケーション開発者は、Aquaを使用してデータ複製、計算検証、フェイルオーバー、ロードバランシングのためのカスタムp2pアルゴリズムを作成することができます。拡張可能な計算とは別に、これによって構築が簡単で、互いにシームレスに構成可能なp2pシステムのデザインスペースが実現されます。
フルエンスはどう役に立つのですか？少なくとも以下の１つが必要となる計算：
- パブリックドメインで検証可能である必要性
- 単一障害点を持たないこと
- 検閲に耐性がある必要性
- ブロックチェーンに直接行くには重すぎるのですが、計算の出力を公開元帳に保存しなければならない場所です。
ここに実際にこれらのアプリケーションの具体的な例をいくつか紹介します：
- オンチェーン投票 —ユーザーはトランザクションに署名し、フルエンスネットワークに送信し、これは すべての票を数え、集計し、チェーンに最終投票結果を提出します。
- 可変性のNFT — NFTを設計するための広大なデザインスペースがあり、これは時間の経過とともに変化するか、あるいは再組み合わせや他の数学的関係を可能にします。
