멀티코인 캐피털은 4년전인 2017년 10월 1일, 자주적인 소프트웨어의 확산 가속화라는 목표를 달성하기 위해 헷지 펀드를 런칭하였습니다. 그 이후 우리는 두 건의 벤처 펀드, 여러개의 SPV(특수목적기구)를 설립하였고 14명으로 구성된 글로벌 팀을 결성하였습니다.
그동안 크립토 시장은 엄청나게 성숙하였습니다. 우리가 처음 시작했을 때는 기관 수탁자도 없었고, 집행을 담당하는 회사도 없었으며, 숏 포지션을 잡을 방법 또한 거의 없었습니다. 대부분의 거래소는 회사 계정에 대한 지원조차 하지 않았죠!
지난 18개월 간 시장은 정말 크게 변화했습니다. COVID 확산 이후, 크립토에 대한 대중들의 인지도는 수직상승했습니다. 우선, 많은 투자자들이 걷잡을 수 없는 인플레이션을 보이는 명목화폐에 대한 헷징 수단으로 비트코인을 진지하게 고려하기 시작했습니다. 비슷한 시기인 2020년 여름, 디파이가 폭발적으로 성장했고 전세계의 금융 전문가들이 크립토에 대해 관심을 가지기 시작했죠. 지난 몇개월간은 디지털 아트, 수집품, 프로필 사진, 크립토 기반 게임 등이 모두 폭발적으로 성장했고 수백만의 리테일 사용자들이 크립토에 입문하기 시작했습니다.
크립토가 주류 사회의 주목을 받기 시작한 단계에 진입함에 따라 우리는 팀을 더 확장하여 창업가들을 최대한 효과적으로 지원하고자 합니다. 뿐만 아니라 크립토 업계 최대의 투자회사로서 더 넓은 범위의 이해당사자들과 교류하고자 합니다.
그러기 위해서 우리는 Greg Xethalis (트위터, 링크드인)를 법무 자문위원 및 최고 감사 책임자(GC, CCO)로 멀티코인 캐피털에 영입했다는 소식을 기쁜 마음으로 알립니다.
멀티코인에 합류하기 전 Greg는 Chapman and Cutler LLP.에서 투자 관리 및 핀테크 파트너로 일하면서 펀드 매니저들, CeFi 기관들, 그리고 스테이블 코인을 주요 대상으로 한 암호자산에 관한 업무를 맡았습니다. 그는 또한 신규 등록 상품을 전문으로 하는 전통적인 주식, 부채 및 상품 자산 관리자를 대리하기도 했습니다.
